Weight Loss Wednesdays-How to go on a vacation

Family / Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

This week at weigh-in time the scale stayed exactly the same.  I was not too shocked, although I had wishfully thought that maybe I could eek by with losing something.  But, at least I did not gain.  It was a week of trying on again off again.  I did not track and even though, I was watchful, there were several times I splurged.  So not losing this week was not a surprise.  BUT, I am determined to keep at it, slow and steady wins the race, right?  With the Lord’s help I hope to make progress.

I was explaining to my son tonight about a statistical graph going up and down, but if the curve is trending upward…it’s all good.  And that’s the way this has to be, there will be difficult weeks, and great weeks..but look at the bigger picture and even if there are dips, is the trend heading the direction we want?

So, Confessions of a Snowflake asked us to write about what is a difficulty in this weight loss journey.  For me, getting going with the exercise is tough.  To find the time and energy to exercise is just plain hard.  I am trying once and awhile to get moving more (throwing a basketball with my sons, etc.) but have a long ways to go in this area.  I really, really need to take baby steps towards some regular fitness activities.
In a few days we are heading for our favorite vacation of the year.  To my in-laws house on the lake.  At my weight watchers meeting tonight, I was telling them all about my sweet mother in laws cooking.  You know, the biscuits and gravy, the chocolate pies, the fried chicken and fried pies.  🙂  So what is my plan? Well, I am on vacation, so it is not realistic that I am not going to eat all that savory comfort food. So…my plan is this…

  • I am going to buy some low cal things that I know will help conserve weight watcher points for me.  For example, light mayo, low cal sandwich bread, 1 point cheese sticks, etc.  When I can use those things it will help leave me room for the good stuff.
  • I am going to try to be active, expending energy in the lake, playing actively on the wii, and just all around moving more.
  • I am going to eat the comfort food.  It is vacation after all.  BUT, I am going to be wise about how much I eat.  Instead of dessert at lunch, supper and before bed, maybe just once. Or tinier portions.
  • I am going to remember the free fruits and vegetables in my weight watchers program.

So my goal is not so much to lose weight over the next couple of weeks, as much as maintaining the weight loss I have already had.  We shall see how I do.  (smile)

So there you have it, my friends.  How was your week? Leave me a comment.

Remember, Good week?  Hard week?  It’s a fresh week!
