7 Design Tips to Make a Small Bedroom Look Spacious and Comfortable

Family / Monday, September 11th, 2017

When my husband and I were courting our family of 5 was living in a 31 ft travel trailer.  Fast forward several years and dear hubby and I lived in our 2 bedroom home with 6 children.  Now, we have a spacious, roomy house. But, the Lord has shared with us in the scripture that in all things we are to be content. That is why I love this guest post on how to make the most out of small living spaces:

“Having a small bedroom doesn’t mean you can’t make it look marvelous? With a few design ideas and tricks, you’ll make your modest bedroom look amazing while also making it comfortable as much as possible. Just follow the tips below!

  1. Use light colours for your walls

Paint your walls with light colours to reflect the light and make your small space become brighter and lively. Not only that, it will also create the illusion of a more spacious area. Refrain from using dark colours since this will definitely absorb the light and make your bed space smaller and constricting than it already is.

  1. Stick to a limited colour palette

If you don’t want to stick to a single colour palette, you can bring and combine in your different colours but do consider limitation. Feel free to mix and match your favourite colours but again, it’s advisable to have a majority of light colour hues to get the benefits mentioned in the previous tip. Using a monochromatic colour scheme that has light hues is also highly recommended.

  1. Maximize your storage space

Your small bedroom will challenge you to maximize your storage space in the area. However, you can utilize all the space in your walls by incorporating book shelves and cabinet organizers to store your personal stuff and other items. Saving space will not only make your bedroom look more organized but also prevent the problem of cluttered items.

  1. Make every little space functional

It’s very common that the space under your bed is usually discarded but you should make it functional. For example: you can use the space below your bed to keep items like luggage bags, shoes, etc. Just to think of it as an additional storing space aside from drawers.

  1. Choose furniture that has a lot of functions

When you choose furniture for your small bedroom, select those that can have two or more functions. It’s more practical for those who already have minuscule space. There are beds that have built-in drawers so you can purchase this instead of purchasing two separate furniture.

  1. Use white linens for your bed

Cover your small bedroom with white linen. A white colour palette enhances space so this best fits for your small space. This is a soft neutral colour so it adds the right amount of warmth for your room and reflects in the natural light. This colour appears to be tidy which gives your small bedroom a decluttered look.

  1. Let the natural light in

Do not use dark colours for your window curtains as these will restrict natural light from reaching your room. Instead, use white curtains to allow natural light to enter your room. You should also avoid using curtains that are too heavy and thick for your windows because the natural light will be obstructed. If you find plain white curtains to be boring then you can spruce it by adding some designs like simple stripes or floral etchings. Just be careful not to overdo it.”
