His Mercies are New Every Morning… Restarting on Bad Days
It seems to me lately that each day has its own set of difficulties. Some days however remind me of the book “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible , and No Good, Very Bad Day”. Everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Do you ever have days like that?
How we choose to respond to our bad days makes all the difference! A few days ago, I was talking to my mom on the phone and the day had been crazy. I was talking to her about it. She replied, it sounds like you had a really bad day! I replied, “No it wasn’t a bad day, it just had some bad points.” I stopped later and thought about it, and to myself and even most people it would have been a bad day. But, for some reason that day, I was able to move past each negative event and keep going with a positive attitude.
I was reminded during that time of Lamentations 3:23,24 “They (The Lord’s mercies ) are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.”
God’s mercies are new every morning and I can find hope each day knowing that! Because his mercies renew every day, I am able to grant mercy to the screaming toddler, the rude pre-teen, and the disobedient child. With one child dealing with Type 1 Diabetes, another one being gluten intolerant, and another dealing with high functioning aspergers while we home-school, some ( or many) days do need a complete reset! During this time we can be reminded that our hope is not in anything down here on earth, but our hope is in Jesus.
This keeps our focus off the broken dishes, and the wailing children, and helps us keep calmer through the turmoil. Colossians 1:2 reminds us that God brings peace; not calm instead of chaos, but peace, knowing that he is in control and that we can trust him! I pray that each one of you can look past the chaos and remember that we can start over on bad days and not let them control us. His mercies are new!
(I found this beautiful mug today, with the English rose garden design. It is such a wonderful reminder for us as mamas. Can you imagine taking a moment out of your day and sipping tea while you contemplate that His mercies are new every morning? ~Jenny)
