My Scriptures for Labor

Spiritual Encouragement / Friday, April 1st, 2011

A reader asked me if I would be able to share what Scripture cards I had written out for my labor. I actually was up till 3 am last night, not able to sleep and finally did mine for this time around. Of course, there are many, many I could use, but here are what I chose this time. But, first a word of explanation. We love to sing the Psalms in our worship and what I have put down below is The Scottish Metrical Version of the Psalms. There are many tunes we use, but for starters if you are interested in putting them to song, the familiar hymn tunes for “Amazing Grace” and “Crown Him with Many Crowns” will work for all but one of them I think. May these verses be a blessing to you!

The Lord’s my light and saving health,
who shall make me dismay’d?
My life’s strength is the Lord, of whom
then shall I be afraid?
Ps. 27:1

I fainted had, unless that I
believed had to see
The Lord’s own goodness in the land
of them that living be.
Wait on the Lord, and be thou strong,
and he shall strength afford
Unto thine heart; yea, do thou wait,
I say, upon the Lord.
Ps. 27:13 & 14

The Lord’s my strength and shield; my heart
upon him did rely;
And I am helped: hence my heart
doth joy exceedingly,
Ps. 28:7

O thou who art the Lord my God,
I in distress to thee,
With loud cries lifted up my voice,
and thou hast healed me.
Ps 30:2

In thee, O Lord, I put my trust,
sham’d let me never be;
According to thy righteousness
do thou deliver me.
Bow down thine ear to me, with speed
send me deliverance:
To save me, my strong rock be thou,
and my house of defence.
Ps 31:1 & 2

Extol the Lord with me, let us
exalt his name together.
I sought the Lord, he heard, and did
me from all fears deliver.
Ps. 34:2

And call upon me when
in trouble thou shalt be;
I will deliver thee, and thou
my name shalt glorify.
Ps. 50:15

Lord, haste me to deliver;
with speed, Lord, succour me…
I poor and needy am;
come, Lord, and make no stay:
My help thou and deliv’rer art;
O Lord, make no delay.
Ps 70

For thy name’s glory help us, Lord,
who hast our Saviour been:
Deliver us; for thy name’s sake,
O purge away our sin.
Ps. 79:9

Upon the name of God the Lord
then did I call, and say,
Deliver thou my soul, O Lord,
I do thee humbly pray.
God merciful and righteous is,
yea, gracious is our Lord.
God saves the meek: I was brought low,
he did me help afford.
Ps. 116:4-6

O blessed ever be the Lord,
who is my strength and might,
Who doth instruct my hands to war,
my fingers teach to fight.
My goodness, fortress, my high tow’r,
deliverer, and shield,
In whom I trust: who under me
my people makes to yield.
Ps 144: 1 & 2

He will accomplish the desire
of those that do him fear:
He also will deliver them,
and he their cry will hear.
Ps.145:19

Shall I bring to the birth and not cause
to bring forth? Saith the Lord…
Isaiah 66:9

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;
but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7
